So I love checking out the #bbloggers trend on Twitter, whenever I'm on twitter you'll find me scrolling down through it. Any of my tweets that have to do with beauty/fashion I always add a #bbloggers or #fbloggers hashtag because I like other bloggers to get involved and reply to my tweets. Anyway, tonights topic was how we got started blogging and our experiences etc.
I did tweet a little about how I got started but thought I'd write a post as I find these kind of posts really interesting, maybe its just my nosy side coming out haha, but I like knowing how others got started.
So. Where to start..
First off, I've always had a love of beauty. From the age of 12 I knew I wanted to pursue a career in it (which I have yaay me) and always loved watching beauty gurus on Youtube. I always thought 'hey I could do that', I genuinely thought I could add something to the 'community' but of course no way would I ever have the guts to actually make videos, mainly due to the fear of being mocked by the people I know.
That's when I discovered blogs..
The first blog I started reading was LLYMLRS.com and I was hooked (when she tweeted me tonight after I said she was the reason I started I nearly died!) I loved her outfit posts on her fashion blog and her beauty reviews on her beauty blog. After a few weeks of religious reading her posts I thought sod it, I'm going to make my own!
So in January of 2012 I did. Now first off, It had a completely different name (don't even ask me what it was I haven't a clue), I didn't use my full name or post ANY photos of myself (if you go back to my old posts you'll notice this!) for fear of anyone I knew finding out. I never really posted regularly for the first few months. Mainly because our laptop had broken so I had no access to my blog except on rare occasions when I could.
It was only around August 2012 that, when I got a new laptop myself, I started blogging regularly and it kind of took off. I started getting views and followers. It was sometime in between January and August that I changed the name to All The Pretty Things and its stuck ever since! I finally decided you know what? Who cares what people I know think? I enjoy it and if what I'm doing with my time bothers them that much then they need to sort their lives out.
Now I'm not saying I went around shouting from the rooftops but if people found out I didn't care.
I don't post my links on Facebook, just my twitter. But not many people I know follow me on there since I made a new one and don't have my full name on it. I haven't even told my parents yet! They know I read blogs, just not that I have one! I hope one day I'll have the guts to just share it on Facebook but I'm not quite there yet.
As of this post my blog has almost 30,000 views not counting each individual posts views which to me is crazy. I know to some people that's what they get in a week but to me, having only started in August (that's when they started to rise, I really didn't have a lot up until then) and living in a small town in Ireland that's crazy!
I don't really care too much about the follower number to be honest, just knowing that people are actually on my blog and seeing the individual views going up on the posts knowing people are reading them is enough for me but I'd love for people to follow if they like the posts so I know what I'm doing is worth my time.

Anyway I'm excited for whats to come in 2013, I definitely want to keep blogging and growing my blog.
If you've done a post of how YOU started please do link it below so I can read it! Again, I'm an extremely nosy person and find them interesting haha.

This is such an inspiring post, I'm in exactly the same position as you - I haven't told anyone I know about my blog! But I love it so much, as I can tell you do too :) This post has really made me think, and it's so reassuring to know that there are bloggers out there that are similar to me and feel the same way about things as I do. I really enjoy reading your posts, and generally having a nose around your blog, hehe! Anyway, all this rambling is really me trying to say that this post has really reassured/inspired me and I love your blog and congratulations on being so successful with it :)

Thank you so much Ellie you've no idea how much this means to me, Just knowing even that one person enjoys it makes it worthwhile!
ReplyDeleteand knowing I'm not alone in the 'being terrified of telling people' department is great too!
xx
I feel the same way! Only a few people know that I blog and I kinda like it. It's like it's my own little thing. It's private and me. Like if someone found out I wouldn't care. But I do love that when I blog it's me time.
ReplyDeleteIts nice having something for yourself!
